What is a qEEG?

•A qEEG provides a brain map that enables us to see the unique patterns of your brain. This information is integrated with other assessment information to design your Neurofeedback training programs and to track your progress across training sessions.

What is Neurofeedback?

•Neurofeedback is an interactive and engaging treatment that helps strengthen and retrain your brain. Over time, new neuro-pathways are created, the effects of training lasts beyond your sessions.

How Can It Help?

•Neurofeedback is training in self-regulation. This can include benefits such as:
+Improved performance
+Better attention and concentration +Improved emotional control
+Better sleep

Now that you know more about neurofeedback, let's keeping learning!

What is qEEG?

Quantitative Electroencephalogram, otherwise know as a qEEG or “Q” for short, is a brain map that enables us to see the unique patterns of your brain. We use it as part of your initial assessment. The Q allows us to identify the areas of strength in your brain, as well as areas of dysregulation that exhibiting too little or too much activity. As well, we are able to see the coherence or synchronicity of neuronal patterns of your oscillating brain waves. This information is integrated with other assessment information to design your Neurofeedback training programs and to track your progress across training sessions.

How is a qEEG done?

cap

The process is quite simple. A sensor cap is placed on your head so that we can listen to your brain activity. This cap contains tiny disc sensors or electrodes that detect the electrical charges that results from the activity of your brain cells. This information is feed through an amplifier that sends the signal to the computer. This data is then displayed as a graph on the computer screen.

z scores

Recording the  qEEG is a two-part process:

1. The sensors will record your brain activity while you sit quietly for 5-8 minutes with your eyes open.

2. The sensors will record your brain activity for an additional 5-8 minutes while your eyes are closed.

Based on these two recordings of neural electrical activity, the computer monitor will show colored patterns—or maps—of your brain. With this information, we are able to evaluate your brain wave patterns and detect any imbalances that may be contributing to your symptoms. This can help us create a personalized protocol to help balance your brain and minimize your symptoms.

EEGs have been used across various types of neurological examinations over the years. They are considered a safe procedure. The electrodes or sensors record activity. They do not produce any electrical signal back to the brain, thus there is no risk of sensation back to the brain.

What is Neurofeedback? (NFT)

Neurofeedback is an interactive and engaging treatment that helps strengthen and retrain your brain. It is a form of biofeedback training that uses brain waves as signals (EEG). Through a gradual process of observation and reward, the brain is retrained to operate more efficiently and effectively.  Reported benefits include improved mental clarity and memory, restful sleep, and a host of other benefits. Over time, new neuro-pathways are created, thus the effects of the training last beyond the training sessions.

How does it work?

+Neurofeedback is a specialized treatment that uses advanced computer technology for balancing and optimizing your brain.

nf

+Neurofeedback is also called EEG Biofeedback, because it is based on the measurement of electrical brain activity, the electroencephalogram, or EEG. to control feedback.

+Neurofeedback uses Sensors (electrodes) applied to the scalp to record the brainwaves, which are converted into feedback signals using advanced computer technology.

+Neurofeedback provides feedback via visual, sound  (video) or tactile feedback to promote learning in the brain.  It can be used to used to induce brain relaxation through increased Alpha Waves.

+Neurofeedback benefits may also include improved ability of the CNS (central nervous system) to modulate the Concentration /Relaxation Cycle and brain connectivity.

+Brainwave activity is gradually ‘shaped’ toward more desirable, regulated performance with respect to the condition of dysregulation that is being treated.

(Based on a definition by Thomas Collura, PhD.)

NFT has it’s foundation in applied neuroscience as well as data-based clinical practice. The development of your particular training takes into account your behavioral, cognitive and psychological aspects as well as your brain activity.

The International Society for Neurofeedback and Research (see www.isnr.org) is the largest group of licensed professionals involved in the practice, teaching, and research of NFT.

So what does it help?

Neurofeedback is training in self-regulation. Good self-regulation is necessary for optimal functioning. Self-regulation training enhances the function of the central nervous system and thereby improves mental performance, emotional control and physiological stability.

Scientific studies show evidence of:

                                                                                                     +Improved performance

Group

                        +Better attention and concentration

Jump

                                         +Focus and calm

                           +Improved control over emotions

                                +Resilience towards stress

                                           +Better sleep

+Better control of behavior

Neurofeedback has been used successfully to improve conditions of brain dysregulation including:

+ADD/ADHD, Anxiety, Autism spectrum disorder, Depression, Insomnia and PTSD.

+Chronic Pain, Headaches, Memory, PMS, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Concussions.

In 2010, the American Academy of Pediatrics gave neurofeedback a high scientific rating for the treatment of ADD/ADHD.
