What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a “Present Oriented” approach to therapy. It is a psycho-social intervention that is short-term and goal-oriented. It takes a direct approach to identifying the current problems by challenging cognitive distortions and changing unproductive patterns in our thinking and behaviors. Self-defeating statements and beliefs and replaced by self-empowering cognitions so that we can be the ‘best version’ of ourselves.
How does CBT work?
CBT works by identifying and challenging unproductive attitudes and behavior by focusing on the current repetitive thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that are held and by examining the impact on your behavior. It helps develop alternative healthy coping skills and behaviors that improve emotional regulation and overall health.
Who does it help?
CBT is used to treat a wide range of issues including:
- Sleep problems
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Impulse Control Problems
CBT as part of my Integrative Wellness Plan
At My Neu Mind we incorporate CBT into the Integrative Wellness Plan (IWP). It is used in tandem with Neurofeedback. This allows you the opportunity to process the new emotions and thoughts that emerge as you work to integrate various brain functions. It also allows an opportunity to problem solve difficult situations and develop beneficial behaviors.
At My Neu Mind, our therapists utilize a combination of psychotherapy and behavior therapy. The psychotherapy approach creates a safe container by which to understanding the personal meaning and attachments we have that often developed from childhood. The behavior therapy encourages us to address our everyday “action” while assuming personal responsibility and power over our actions, and thus, our future.
Our team of therapist are focused on providing the best care possible and focus on the client's health as a whole. This includes addressing current habits such as eating or exercise and creating a plan that introduces healthier habits to promote a positive mood.
